Our aim — 2026 / 27
From competition organiser to a genuine school sport partnership
Our aim for 2026/27 is to evolve from being recognised primarily as a competition organiser into becoming a genuine school sport partnership. Competition will always remain at the heart of what we do, but we will also support schools through leadership development, inclusion, physical activity, health and wellbeing, staff development and sustainable school improvement.
We want WDPSSA to become a year-round partner that helps schools navigate the changing landscape while creating more opportunities for every child to engage, include, compete, lead and thrive.
Context — 2026 / 27
WDPSSA and the changing national landscape
We recognise that 2026/27 is a period of significant change for PE and school sport funding.
While the funding model is changing, the national ambition is not. The Government’s new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network places increased emphasis on school-to-school collaboration, increasing participation, tackling inactivity and creating more opportunities for girls, less-active pupils and children with SEND.
These priorities have helped shape the development of WDPSSA for 2026/27.
Our aim is to ensure schools continue to have access to high-quality competition and events, while also providing additional opportunities around inclusion, leadership, physical activity and wellbeing.
Why two memberships?
Every school is different
Some schools simply want access to high-quality events. Others want support that creates lasting impact across PE, physical activity and child wellbeing.
That is why we offer two packages. Whether your priority is around events, competitions and event opportunities or building a whole-school culture of physical activity, there is a membership to match your journey — and you are never paying for provision you do not need.
